28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews, but they tried to kill him. 30 When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
Today we take a final look at Saul’s life and how God was disrupting (change of direction), dismantling (stripping away, tear apart), healing (emotional, physical, spiritual) and restoring, by looking at restoring.
Restoring can be defined as :
- to bring back into existence, to reestablish
- to bring back to a former, original, or normal condition
- to bring back to a state of health, soundness, or vigor.
- to put back to a former place, or to a former position, rank, etc.
- to give back; make return or restitution of (anything taken away or lost).
- to reproduce or reconstruct in the original state.
Jesus stepped into Saul’s life and disrupted his plans on the road to Damascus, the Holy Spirit dismantled Saul’s former beliefs and lead him to the truth of Jesus, the Father helped him heal by leading Christians with the love of Jesus in their heart to love on Saul and finally God restored Saul by using sending him to use his passion and the knowledge of scripture to establish churches and to help other’s find Christ in what had been unreached places in their world. Saul became the passionate leader and follower of his heavenly Father that he was meant to be.
A couple of things that might interest you, many believe that God changed Saul’s name to Paul as he did changing Peter’s name from Simon, this is not clearly defined in scripture. The name Paul is the roman version of Saul (Hebrew). Others believe Saul chose to be called Paul to identify more with the gentiles and to move away from the identity of his past.
Paul went on to start several churches throughout their known world and wrote much of the New Testament.
Tarsus would be in what we now know as Turkey.
So on to you and me…
If God is constantly using this cycle in our lives as well, where are you being disrupted right now? Where is the dismantling occurring? How is He trying to heal you? What restoration is He up to in your life?
Please take time today to ask Jesus to remove any scales form our eyes and for the Holy Spirit to lead you to truth.
Tomorrow we will take a final look at this topic.
In the Father’s love,
